State Licensing

In Florida it is unlawful to import, export, manufacture, distribute, or sell alcoholic beverages without a license issued by the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (ABT). The fee varies with the type of license – the greater the privilege, the higher the fee. A list of license types and fees is available on the ABT’s website.

The standards to qualify for a license to deal in alcoholic beverages are more stringent than for dealing in other consumer products. For example, Florida requires that applicants be of sound moral character and not have a felony conviction. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age, not have been convicted of a violation of the Beverage Law in the past five years, not have been convicted of prostitution or violation of drug laws in the past five years, or not have been convicted of a felony in the last fifteen years.

Florida’s independent beer distributors hold one of three licenses:
1. Beer only
2. Beer and wine
3. Beer, wine and spirits
