This is the 20th Holiday season where Suncoast Residents will be able to call Tow To Go for a ride if they’ve had a little too much to drink or if they just don’t want to take the risk.
It all started with John Saputo and his staff at Gold Coast Eagle, who wondered why people would get behind the wheel knowing it was dangerous to drink and drive.
“One of the things that we discovered,” Saputo said. “Was these people that got DUI’s said they took a chance on driving because they wanted to make sure they had their car in their driveway to go to work in the morning.”
So, they found a way to fix that. “We put their car with a tow truck in their driveway,” Saputo said. “So they have absolutely no excuse to go out and drive when their under the influence.”
They needed help, and the first partner to get on board was AAA.
“They immediately knew who the tow truck drivers and who the tow truck owners were within our community,” Saputo said. “And they immediately got in touch with these tow truck people and the tow truck people knew this was a serious problem on our roads also. And they were very cooperative with their pricing on this.”
Now on holidays, anyone can call the Tow To Go number and get them and their car a ride home.
“The DUI costs in excess of 2,500 to 5,000 dollars,” Saputo said. “A simple call on an 800 number and you save yourself that aggravation, the embarrassment, the publicity, and dealing with the court system.”
Tow To Go is available on most holidays, simply by calling 855-2-TOW-2-GO, and you don’t need to be a AAA member to call for a ride.
